Teacher Laurie is a queer Portland artist and creative, who came into teaching after helping out with her twin nephews as a live-in Auntie from their babyhood to the age of 6. She loves open-ended art exploration, crafts, nature and seasons, getting messy and storytelling. Laurie has also worked in several Reggio/ constructivist and social justice-based preschools in Portland, and is steeped in both inquiry based learning practices and anti-bias education. Laurie believes deeply that a childhood with direct and meaningful contact with nature grows empathetic and environmentally-conscious people. Laurie has downsized her previous lead teaching roles, working at Wildflowers part-time and perusing her other creative outlets, and is thoroughly enjoying the grounded, connected, loving community she has found here!
